David Schaub-Jones is the director of Tipping Point, a consultancy based in Cape Town, South Africa. We work on issues both across Africa and globally.

David’s expertise lies in working with organisations to learn lessons, to innovate and to partner with others.  He has more than 20 years of experience in consulting, in providing training, and in fostering innovation.

An experienced facilitator, David has worked for a range of global organisations - those that deal with some of the most pressing issues of our time, from water security to urban resilience development, from nature-based solutions to cross-sector partnerships.

In addition to founding a social enterprise and consultancy firm, David has previously worked some of the sector’s leading players, including The Nature Conservancy, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, BPD and WaterAid. As a consultant he has advised utilities for the World Bank, led on the development of innovative software for regulators, helped structure deals for the private sector, and facilitated Sanitation and Water for All meetings for the UN.

Working alongside other experts, Tipping Point is currently supporting sector reform in South Africa, developing regional financing strategies for water infrastructure in Africa and helping influential international NGOs align their thinking on climate finance, water security and green infrastructure.

We are also tackling the impact of climate change on water security in Africa (Nigeria, Zambia) and Asia (Sri Lanka, Vietnam), supporting work on sanitation financing for a German foundation and training Indonesian government officials on collective action.

As the director and founder of Tipping Point, David is particularly known his ability to find common ground between individuals and organisations that tend to see the world in very different ways. Whether this is driving entrepreneurship of sanitation services or shaping financial systems to make municipal services more resilient.

David has a background in engineering and economics, with Masters’ degrees from the US, France and the UK. David is also an experienced facilitator, registered with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF).
